SMUDGE

I can't believe that our little girl is already ONE! I have no idea where the last year has gone. People tell you that it's goes fast, but I had no idea it would be over in the blink of an eye.

Isla is growing into the most beautiful, kind hearted little girl. She has such a sweet heart and her little personality is shining through. I couldn't be more proud of who she is becoming. Every day we watch her learning new things, and her curious eyes watch your every move. Her laugh is infectious, her smile is BEAUTIFUL, and her joy is so obvious. She can't help but bop along to music and squeal while she excitedly runs down the hallway. The way she cuddles us, and all of her toys completely melts me from the inside out.

I didn't know that I could have so much love for such a little person. My heart feels like it's bursting, in the best kind of way.

We threw her a little first birthday party over the weekend, and made it bright, fun and colourful, just like Isla. As you probably know, I've always been a big DIY person, so planning this party was no different! Some ideas I came up with in my sleep, and others I got inspiration from pictures I had seen.

I had planned a confetti themed party, with a pretty little dash of boho thrown in, and it was going to be held out the back of our Nans place. There are these beautiful trees there, and with all the decorations I planned out, it was going to create this special little outdoor space. But in my head, the weather was going to be beautiful also, and unfortunately on the day it of course decided to pour down with rain!! As it always seems to do when you plan an outside event. Typical. SO, come Saturday it was a little stressful changing the whole party location to be undercover. In fact, I didn't even get to use my most favourite DIY project that took me probably a week straight to make, because there was no place to hang it. Ahhh. Such is life. The day still turned out really lovely, and Isla had an absolute ball which is the important thing!

I wish we had gotten more photos, but with the rush of things on the day, it just didn't happen! I've put together a few snaps so you can see some of the things we made.

One of my favourite things I made was the little romper you see on Isla above!! A couple days before her party, I drafted up a pattern from scratch, and cut out my pattern onto plain white fabric. Then I got my fabric ink out and mixed up some colours. Using different sized circular foam brushes (which I later found out are called Dabbers) I stamped on the confetti spots! Once dried, I ironed it to set the ink, and then sewed it together.

It turned out even better than I thought it would! She looked like a giant confetti marshmallow, and I LOVE it! If it didn't take so much time to make to the pretty fabric, I would be selling these in my shop! In fact.. I might just do it anyway!! Because it's so pretty, and life needs pretty things in it.
I picked up some glass vases from local Op Shops, with the idea to make some table decorations! When I got home, I painted them white. It probably took about 3 coats of paint. Then I used my confetti hole punch and coloured card, both from Spotlight, and glued on little confetti spots close to the tops of the vases. I love how they turned out. Then I realised I probably needed something to go in the vase, and I made up Pom Poms, and hot glue gunned them onto kebab sticks that I had also painted white. So pretty!
One of the big projects that took a lot of time was these giant paper mache letters! My Sister-in-Law had previously cut the letters out from foam blocks using a wire cutter. She had them for her engagement party, and said I could have them. She had all the letters I needed except for the 'I'. So I used an 'R' and cut it up to make an 'I'. Honestly, it was very messy and I had foam everywhere in our kitchen because I didn't use a wire cutter! But once I got a coat of paper mache onto it, it was much better. I painted them white, and then stuck more confetti card all over them! This took hours and hours, but I loved the end result! The letters were originally going to stuck in the grass, but due to change of location, they ended up on the food table.
Who doesn't love Oreos covered in white chocolate.. and then covered in Sprinkles?! Thank you Pinterest!!
Also whipped up some fruit kebabs sticks to have for people to make their own fruit sticks. (You know.. a healthier option to the Oreos!)
The day before the party I quickly typed up some 8"x10" prints to have around the place as well. Some of these will be going in her room now.
My favourite DIY project that I mentioned before was a beautiful white backdrop. It took so long to make, and unfortunately didn't get used! HOWEVER, it's now hanging in Isla's room, so I can't complain. It's made from deli paper. We cut up 1000's of little white half circles, and taped them into cones. Then using a pin and fishing wire, stitched them into rows of roughly 30. I really love how it turned out! He's a sneaky preview..
With the help of my Mother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law, we spent a couple nights making 16 giant DIY tissue paper flowers. I bought and painted the sticks white, then made the tissue paper flowers. I later stuck them to the sticks, and they were placed in the garden. There were dark pink, light pink, dark purple, lights purple, white and mint green ones. So pretty! We didn't get a photo of them at the party, but I got one afterwards. As you can see, Isla was a big help with getting a photo!
OH! And one more mention! Because they took so long to make! I bought some packets of little wooden spoons for the Ice Cream bar. I painted the ends white, then stamped on words, then painted on little coloured dots to go with the theme! Cuuuuutee.

I have a few snaps from her actual party, so I'll post them below. Lots of fun things, like an Ice Cream Bar and Macaroons with personalised box covers as favours! But another one of my favourites is the cake that my Mother-in-Law made! It was a confetti cake with actual confetti cake spots throughout it. Again, we got the idea from Pinterest. It turned out great!!
Oh! Another genius idea by my Mother-in-Law was the large blow up pool with little balls that she organised. She also hired play equipment for the kiddies. It was definitely a hit! Isla was making friends and making my heart burst even further!!
Now that the party is over (and the house is finally clean again), I can relax a little and get back into a normal routine. Getting to sleep before midnight is definitely a good thing!!

All in all, the party was a success! We are so lucky to have such amazing family and friends in our lives. Isla was totally blessed and spoilt with love. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us, and to everyone that helped make the day happen!!

SO MUCH LOVE FOR ALL OF YOU!

Until next time..

I honestly can't believe that it's been another whole TWELVE weeks since completing the very first round of BBG 1.0. But here we are 12 weeks later, with another round under our belts, and feeling better then ever!!

With any fitness related programs, you only get out of it what you put into it. I really have given this program everything in me! Not working out, is simply not an option for me anymore. I can tell you now that I feel so proud to be achieving what I set out to do. Not only am I lighter than I was pre-pregnancy now, but I have more muscle, I'm more toned, stronger, fitter, healthier, more confident and HAPPIER than I have been in a long time!

A couple of weeks ago, Kayla herself saw my progress photo and posted it on her own Instagram, which is a HUGE honour. I am so excited that she has seen the affect she's had on me. I hope she knows how thankful I am!

When I started back in August 2015, I had no idea how much I would love this journey. It's challenged me, changed the way I think, given me a new LOVE for working out, introduced me to a bunch of new friends, and it's become a part of my every day life.

Since I started (over 6 months ago) I have only missed ONE workout, and that's because of an injury that I'm still recovering from. And it was an extra workout anyway, so I'm not too bothered. When you make something a priority though, it changes you.

Oh hey there GUNS! Whaaa?! I know right, who would have thought!?
So as I've already said, yesterday I finished round two of BBG 1.0. And as of last night, I'm now the proud owner of BBG 2.0!! So that's what we're straight into today. After looking through it, I'm both nervous AND excited. I can't wait to see how I'm feeling after another 12 weeks of sweat and hard work!!

At the start of the last round, I wanted to work on food portions, drinking more water, and focusing on form with the exercises. I feel that I did pretty good with food portions and focusing on form, however I would still like to be drinking more water!! With the amount that you sweat during all the workouts, it's so important to keep hydrated! Something to focus on this round.

Also, going into this round of BBG, I will be keeping up with the extra workouts I've been doing since week 6 of the last round. I will go into that more later!

For those interested, here’s some information on changes and improvements! It hasn't really changed since the last round. Plus you can view my weekly workout schedule and (drum roll) my official transformation!

GIVEN UP.
Remember that this is a lifestyle change. Something that becomes habit. But also something that you want to maintain long term, so treating yourself on occasions is totally okay if you want to! Just don’t over-do it. So other than on really special occasions, I’ve given up..

Rice // White bread // Fast Food // Coffee // Cows Milk // Sugar // Lollies  // Sweets // Ice-cream // Cakes // Chocolate etc.

SUBSTITUTES.
Quinoa // Dark Rye Bread // Coconut Water // Coconut Milk // Homemade Nut Milks // Homemade RAW Chocolate and Desserts!

RULES.
I have some general rules I stick with that keep me feeling good.

I do at least one Green Smoothie a day as one of my main meals, usually that’s for breakfast. I often get asked if that sustains me - and YES it does. I often don’t feel like lunch until around 1pm. // I usually have two pieces of Dark Rye Bread to make some kind of sandwich for lunch. I only have two pieces of bread in a day. If I want toast for breakfast I can, but then I either do my Green smoothie for lunch, or make a salad instead. // Dinners are usually things like chicken and salad, fish and salad, steak and veggies, soup, quinoa & tuna salad, or healthy homemade burritos (with some sneaky sour cream and cheese), and we sometimes do spaghetti bolognese (but instead of having the pasta I have the sauce on some mushrooms! You get used to it, and it’s pretty delicious!) // Once a week we have family dinner night, and I use that as my cheat night. I have a Nando’s classic chicken wrap and some chips. // Snacks are important, I try and have one in-between meals (this doesn’t always happen) but I do things like homemade RAW chocolate, some Greek Yogurt with a dash of Honey and a piece of Fruit, some Fruit by itself, or Quinoa Crackers and Dip. There are a bunch of yummy sweet recipes on my blog, feel free to treat-yo-self, and indulge without feeling guilty!

WORKOUT IMPROVEMENTS.
It’s crazy how your body adapts when pushed to! I couldn’t do lots of things when I started. Over the first round, I greatly improved on the following:

Full Push Ups
Commandos
Ab Work
Skipping
Burpees

During the second round, I feel like I improved on all of the above again! Plus..

Jump Lunges
In the last week or so, Lara and I really worked on form with these. And OUCH! They burn so bad. But we did it! YAY.

Broad Jump Burpees
These never become easier, but I do feel like I'm not quite as unco anymore. It took me some practice to be able to jump with both feet at the same time!

Squats
Just all the squats in general. I feel like I'm going lower and can really feel it working every muscle now!

WORKOUT SCHEDULE.
Since week 6 of the last round, I stepped up my LISS game, and did 6 sessions each week. I'm planning to continue with this general schedule for BBG 2.0. I know that 12 workouts a week may seem extreme, and it probably is if I was to keep going long term. But this is not a permanent thing, it's only temporary. Once I get closer to my goals and where I want to be, I'll pull back a little and be happy to maintain that. But for now, I've been giving it everything I have and have been seeing amazing results. I feel really good about that!

Okay. So lets get into the figures. These are my totals since I started BBG. Honestly, I feel pretty happy about these numbers. I have worked my butt off (literally!) with each exercise, never missing workouts and eating super clean, and I think it's really starting to show.

MEASUREMENTS & TRANSFORMATION.

Weight (-8.4kg)
Waist (-10.5cm)
Belly Button Line (-19cm)
Hips (-10.5cm)

Butt (-6cm)
Thigh (-5.5cm)

So I've said goodbye to 51.5cm overall. MIND - BLOWN!

It never really gets easier putting up a transformation photo for all the world to see! But I think it's important because it keeps me accountable. I can't believe where I started and how far I've come! I have a long way to go before I'm where I want to be, but I'm not worried. This is a journey, and one I'm loving. I hope that by having these photos up, they encourage and inspire you and make you realise that everybody can do it.

Just like I did last time, I've continued to take a photo every single morning, and Joe has helped me put together another GIF of my photo-a-day transformation! So press play and enjoy!

The crazy thing about this whole journey, is that it's shifted my focus in life. It's become something I really LOVE. I love accomplishing my goals, I love discovering new delicious healthy foods, I love encouraging the girls that are on the same journey to keep going! I want to do this all the time. I used to think I needed a personal trainer to force me to do things because I didn't have the motivation to do it by my own will. But that's not the case anymore. Now I don't NEED one, I almost want to BE one!
A huge thank you to Kayla again. And just like before, thank you to my husband for supporting me through another round, and thank you to Lara for doing each workout with me, and pushing me. And thank you to the whole BBG community!

YOU are the only one that can reach your goals, so I really encourage you to make the change today if you are not happy or feeling confident in your health and body. Don’t put it off any longer. I guarantee you won’t regret it. You can do this. You’ve got this. YOU are your own warrior. And you’re not alone, you'll have a whole army of girls fighting beside you.

Come hang out over at Instagram & Snapchat! Especially if you're on a similar journey. We can inspire and motivate each other. Also, if you're doing BBG, and live in Australia or New Zealand, come join our support group on Facebook.

I am still blown away by the fact that my Mother-in-Law actually MADE me a Raw Chocolate Cake for my birthday to surprise me with because she knew how much it would mean to me! I don't eat other cakes anymore, and so I was pretty excited!!

It was absolutely delicious!! And tasted even better than it looked (if that's possible!?). After putting up a little photo of cake on a couple Facebook support groups for Kayla Itsines, (one of which I'm an Admin for, so come join us if you're in Australia or New Zealand and doing BBG here) I was flooded with people asking for the recipe! So, I asked my lovely Mother-in-Law where she got the recipe from and sent it to me. I'll let you all in on the delicious-ness below!

It was a modified Thermo-Mix recipe. The original can be found here.
However, she didn't use Agave Nectar, Fennel Pollen or Maple Sugar Chips for the topping. Instead, she used fresh berries. Uhhh.. YUM!

For those of you who don't have a Thermo-Mix (like me) I'll write out the recipe in a way that you can easily make it. You'll still need a high speed blender or food processor.

INGREDIENTS
Base:
60g Cacao Butter
150g Hazelnuts
45g Raw Cacao
20g Raw Honey

Filling:
300g Pecans
150g Pitted Dates
150g Dried Figs
40g Honey
35g Raw Cacao
1 1/2 Teaspoons of Natural Vanilla Extract

Topping:
200ml of Coconut Oil
100g Raw Cacao
Fresh Blueberries and Raspberries to sprinkle on top

Let's get to it! For preparation, line a 20cm cake pan with baking paper. Put the Pecans into your blender and grind them up. Set them aside in a little bowl for later.

Now start with the base. Melt your Cacao Butter, and then put it into your blender. Add your Hazelnuts, Raw Cacao and Honey. Blend together well. Tip the mixture into the lined cake pan and evenly spread it out, pressing down right to the edges. Pop it into the fridge.

To make the filling, blend together the dates and figs. This will take a bit of effort. Stop a few times and mix things around. Once roughly blended together, add the ground up Pecans that you set aside earlier, and the Honey, Raw Cacao and Vanilla Extract. Blend together until you reach your desired consistency. Press the mixture into the cake pan on top of your base. Pop it back into the fridge for at least 3 hours.

Now time for the topping! Mix together the Raw Cacao and Coconut Oil in a small milk pan or even just a bowl! Once mixed together well, pour it over the top of the cake. Then sprinkle in as many fresh berries as you would like! Not only do they look amazing and colourful, but they taste delicious!! Once your happy with it, put it back into the fridge for at least 20 minutes to let the topping set.

And thats it! Once you're ready to serve, run a sharp knife around the edge of the cake pan and remove the cake, placing it on a serving board or plate of your choice.
Remember to keep the cake in the fridge unless it's being eaten! Otherwise the ingredients will go very soft, and the topping starts to melt after a little while.
ENJOY!! I certainly did!!

Have a great day lovelies!
